We are hosting a beginner’s West Coast Swing (WCS) class! You’ve maybe seen the videos of people improv dancing to WCS online, and now’s your chance to learn it! The classes will run on Wednesdays (starting September 17th) from 19:10-20:10 in Tunglið Veislusalur (Lækjargata 2) on the 3rd floor. There will also be a social following the class at 20:10-22:00 every Wednesday (part of our Double Decker Swing Social!) so you can practice the moves you just learned
.
West Coast Swing is a modern swing dance with roots from Lindy Hop. It’s known for its elastic connection and its focus on playful interpretion of the music. It can be danced to many genres, mostly pop, r&b, blues and contemporary. Our WCS 1: beginner’s course is the introductory class to WCS. Here we will teach you everything you need to know about the basics of WCS to get you started dancing.
We have one main teacher for WCS: Cat! She is the president of Háskóladansinn and has been dancing for 23 years, partner dancing for 9 years, and teaching dance for 13 years (so you’re in good hands). Cat will be assisted by some guest teachers throughout the semester, as well as teaching classes by herself.
